I’m happy to finally announce our new and much improved band web-site:
www.curtiskinglive.com (Lots of fun gig photos, press releases, tunes, and links!) Have a look! Download some of our new tunes. There are some hot chic photos for the dudes, and some hot guy photos for the ladies (no, not my photo… ha ha).
The band has been playing all over Vietnam over the last year (Saigon, Hanoi, and just about everywhere in between), with a few fun gigs in Cambodia (we had a good excuse – a crazy Indian wedding and a jammin’ good time in Phnom Phen – thanks to Sharkys and Talkin To A Stranger!), and I’ve been lucky to jam a few times at the Crazy Elephant in Singapore, Dinamoe Hum Jazz Club in Hong Kong, and even with the guys at Tokyo Joe’s in Bangkok. Great fun. Thank you everyone!
RADIO……. A little bit of good news… our re-make of the old blues classic “Born Under A Bad Sign” got great airplay on the coolest radio station in Vietnam (XoneFM, 104.5 in Saigon). We took the original tune, added a couple slick traditional Asian instruments, put on a funky disco beat and some wailing harp, and … cool! (You can download an MP3 at our website. FREE for your Clevelanders!)
TRAVEL….. This year promises more shows around Vietnam, and hopefully a trip to Tokyo to jam with some old friends and some new friends. Who knows, China may even come into the cards (it’s been 7 years!). (Love to play in Laos, Mongolia, Russia, Slovakia, Hungary, if anyone has any ideas….!)
NEW CD COMING SOON!....... Later this year, I also plan to release the band’s studio CD “Who is Curtis King? Who Cares?” with special guest Dr. Joe Murray from Singapore doing comic voiceovers, plus great guitar work from John Chee of the Crazy Elephant (Singapore), Matthew “Cadillac” Cooper, Dave D’aranjo, and many other talented artists. More on that soon. All studio tracks, some fun originals.
RECORDINGS… I had the good fortune to record a harmonica track with The Unseen Guest on their new CD “Checkpoint” (available on Amazon). Cool band that has charted in Rolling Stones magazine – mixing blues with traditional Indian sounds and rhythms. (I’m on track #1 “Miracle Mile”.) Checkpoint got a 4 out of 5 star rating from “Uncut” magazine.
HAPPENINGS IN VIETNAM… I’ve been working with the Galaxy Studio company in Vietnam, in cooperation with Kingsworld, setting up a music division and assisting with some movie-related issues in the company. Galaxy is a Vietnamese-owned media company (film/magazine/music/cinemas/PR) operating in Vietnam since 1994 (More info about Galaxy at
